Frequently Asked Questions

We are here to help with your questions.

What does 20/20 vision mean?

20/20 vision is a term used to express normal visual acuity (the clarity or sharpness of vision) measured at a distance of 20 feet. If you have 20/20 vision, you can see clearly at 20 feet what should normally be seen at that distance. If you have 20/100 vision, it means that you must be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with normal vision can see at 100 feet.

At what age should children have their first eye exam?

The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends that children should have their first eye examination at age 6 months, then at 3 years of age, and then again before he or she enters school. Early detection helps address vision development and eye health problems more effectively.

My child likes to read in the dark or near dark. Is this harmful?

Reading or working under low lighting does not have any harmful physical effect.

Will wearing eyeglasses make me dependent on them?

No. Eyeglasses and contact lenses allow you to see clearly and comfortably. Without them, vision is less clear. The lenses correct the symptoms rather than curing the underlying vision disorder, so no dependency develops, only improved comfort and clarity while wearing them.
